Refurbished dresser gets a vintage paint and stain

I am SO excited about this dresser. I found it at the Goodwill in Lynchburg when I was driving home from NC to visit the wonderful Wood and Gilbreath families. My mom spotted this piece and I knew that it had great fix-up potential. If you saw my favorite things post on Friday, you saw that I am having a love affair with this dresser. I just love the look, so I wanted to copy it a bit.

The dresser was in great shape to begin with and has dovetail drawers and wood that wasn’t warped or rotting. Unfortunately, the top had a lot of water stains, and even after sanding the heck out of it, they still weren’t budging. Because of the water stains, I decided to paint the surround in Annie Sloan Old White and only strip and refinish the drawers. I purchased my first power tool (an electric sander) which really did the trick. After sanding down all of the drawers, I stained them in Minwax Jacobean and applied two coats of Minwax Polycrylic finish. It gives the drawers a nice satin sheen but isn’t too shiny. I changed out the knobs to pretty seed glass clear knobs from World Market.
